Trouble in Moose Creek

The day started off well, with good weather and beautiful scenery as we traveled the Klondike Highway toward Dawson City.
The Stewart River, a tributary of
the Yukon River.

The road has some frost heaves and bumpy surfaces, and at one point the driver's side power sun visor came undone on one end.   We stopped at a turnout for Steve to fix it, and when we pulled out we noticed that David and Jackie did not pull out behind us.  There was no place to pull over, so we contacted them on the walkie-talkie and found out that they were having a brake problem.   There was no way we could back up and no place to turn around on this narrow road, so we drove 4 miles ahead and pulled into the Moose Creek Lodge.  Steve unhooked the car and drove back to help David, and I stayed with the rig and the dogs.

To make a long story shorter,  the problem was not with the brakes on the Weis's rig, it was the brakes on their tow truck that locked up.  Once that was remedied, the battery on Steve's Jeep was dead!

Note the sod roof that needs mowing!
Meanwhile the dogs and I took a walk, and I investigated the Moose Creek Lodge, which was very interesting.  It has cabins, a restaurant, a gift shop, an old trapper's cabin, and lots of funky wood animal

Approximately the size of the mosquitos here

Cute moose.

After 2 hours, both the Weis rig and our Jeep were on the move again, and we arrived safely at the Bonanza Gold RV Park in Dawson City.  After the day we had, no one felt like doing any sightseeing tonight so David grilled sausages and burgers on we had a quiet evening in front of the TV.  Tomorrow, we're off to see one of my favorite parts of the trip to Alaska--Dawson City!
