Lake Louise, Lake Minnetonka

I haven't been thrown out of Starbucks yet, so I will continue while I can.

Thursday, June 9

We set out bright and early to go to Lake Louise (about 25 miles from Banff).  It is a good thing we did, because we got there in time to see the lake in the sunshine just a few minutes before the rain started.

Lake Louise, and especially this spot, is the most photographed
place in the Canadian Rockies, so naturally we had to get our
pictures taken here too.

Soon after these pictures were taken we hiked about half way down the side of the lake when a dark cloud obscured the glacier and part of the lake.  We turned around when it started to rain and took shelter in the hotel.  After we left there, we drove up to Maraine Lake, but it was too rainy to get out so we just looked at it from the car.  In the village we had lunch, then drove back along the Bow River Parkway looking for animals.  We saw only one deer.

Back at the rigs, we rested a while, then drove out to Lake Minnetonka where we had better luck.

We saw these two big horn sheep, but we can't decide if they are
a mom and baby or two babies.

Then, a tiny, wobbly fawn crossed the road right in front of us.  We were so startled that no one got a picture of it, but we got pictures of the worried mom waiting for it.

Mom and fawn departing together.
Sunset from our campsite.
