The Alaska Zoo

After another delicious and plentiful $3.49 breakfast at the galley, we set out to visit the Alaska Zoo.
Let me start by saying that I am not a fan of zoos.  I know they serve a good purpose, but seeing wild animals in cages generally is not my cup of tea.  However, we took the Discovery Tour with a zoo guide who gave us a wealth of information and showed us a few areas not open to the public, so we learned a lot of things about the animals.  The zoo is very clean and well laid out,  we were able to use our Alaska Tour Book to buy 2 for 1 tickets, and the weather was lovely, so it was  a good day.

We saw some strange animals on the loose!

We also saw many of the zoo's arctic and sub-arctic animals as well.

A side note.
We are staying in a campground on a military base in very pretty wooded surroundings.  For the past few days there has been a problem with several black bears and cubs running around the campground.  They have stolen at least 3 sewer hoses, dragged them into the woods, and torn them up.  One guy left a small vacuum cleaner outside and the bears dragged it away and tore the bag open.  Our group has not seen the bears, but today the MP's were here trying to chase them away.  Only in Alaska!
