Sled dogs and River Rafting

Another adventurous day in Denali!  This afternoon we visited the Denali National Park kennels and had a wonderful time petting the beautiful sled dogs there.  A ranger gave an excellent and informative talk about the dogs and the jobs they do here in the park followed by a demonstration of their pulling ability as five dogs pulled their training cart rapidly around the area.  The most fun, though, was getting up close and personal with the dogs.  After a rainy afternoon, the rain stopped long enough for us to take a white water rafting trip on the Nenana River.  After a hilarious time "suiting up" in a dry suit and booties, we traveled  to the loading place by bus and more or less fell into the rafts.  Our oarsman, Austin, was excellent, both at rowing and at entertaining us.  The scenery was pristine and beautiful.  The 11 miles we traveled had enough rapids to be exciting but not enough to be scary.  Then we had another hilarious time getting out of our dry suits, cold, tired and happy.
