July 30--August 1

Saturday,  July 30, 2016

Today we made the trip from Portage to Seward.  We are temporarily at the Stoney Creek RV Park which is nice enough, but only has 30 AMP.  It  is still  chilly and rainy off and on, so that is O.K.  Paula and Mike are staying here also, and we met Deb and Joe from Kansas parked next door, so we still had a nice group for happy hour.  David and Jackie elected to stay in tonight, but the rest of us went out to Ray's Restaurant in Seward.  The food was excellent, but pricey, however, the company was was very congenial and a good time was had by all.

After a late coffee time we decided to take in the Alaska Sealife Center today.  It is an informative and well done facility for the most part, and the displays were very interesting.  I, however, have the same problem with aquariums as I do with zoos--I'd rather see the animals in the wild than confined in a small space.  The puffins were adorable, as always, the male sea lion seemed to enjoy posing for pictures, and I got to touch an anemone and a starfish.  The facility is located on the shores of Resurrection Bay and is called "a window to the sea."  Again, we took many pictures, and I share a few with you here:

David prepared pancakes for our breakfast before we moved closer into town today. We are camped at the Seward Resort, which is a recreation area of the Army and Air Force base (JBER) at Anchorage.  We have 50 AMP service and water,  at about 1/2 the price we we have been paying.  It is very convenient to town, and has a nice community room, bar, cafe, and gift shop.
They also have charter boats for deep sea fishing in the Bay of Alaska, and the guys are going out on one tomorrow.  We hope they will bring home some BIG halibut!  We had happy hour at the Freedom Fighters Lounge tonight, and the guys turned in early in order to be ready to go at 5:30 A. M.  Needless-to-say, we girls will not be accompanying them!
